1. Parents educated children on their own and through apprenticeships
2. Horace Mann—Industrial Age--Immigrants—State takes away education responsibilities from parents for all to speak the same language and have the same skill sets (students have a change in attitudes and values from parents)
*Homeschooling movement trying to take educational responsibility back from the state
3. Age of Technology--Lifelong Learning—customizing learning for each one’s needs, interests, and abilities . . . parents doing more with videos, computers, etc. Society doing more with workplace learning (virtual simulations—2nd Life), learning centers, educational TV and videos, technical certifications, online social/learning groups, etc.
